Cold channel containment effectively concentrates cold air on the intake side of the IT equipment. This cold channel isolation system brings several operational benefits to the data center, including:

Effective isolation: Cold channel isolation minimizes the mixing of hot and cold air for better control of the intake temperature. Often, the cooling system must be set much lower than is necessary to consider the mix of hot and cold air. By eliminating the mixing of air, the cooling system does not need to be set too low.

Centralized cooling: By centralized cooling at the rack level, cold air can go where it needs to go instead of being directed to the general area. This ensures that there are no hot spots and that no device is subjected to higher temperatures than specified by the manufacturer.

Increased efficiency: Cold channel closures make cooling systems more efficient and improve the overall efficiency of the data center. By providing efficient cooling and eliminating hot spots, the cold channel isolation system ensures that equipment is operating at an optimal level.

Efficient Space: Data center space is very expensive, but many data centers end up not using much space due to temperature issues. Because of the difficulty of controlling the air temperature, the top layer of the rack is usually empty, and the rack may be further apart to allow more airflow. Cold aisle containment eliminates wasted space by ensuring that all levels of the rack, even the top floor, have access to cold air. By increasing the number of racks, data centers can use data center space more efficiently and increase revenue per square foot.
