The star connection of generator winding is to connect the ends X, Y and Z of three windings at one point. This point is called the neutral point of the generator, which is usually called the zero point. The generator is connected to the load with four wires. The three wires from the three starting ends A, B and C of the winding are called the terminal wires, commonly known as the live wires;
The wire led out from the neutral point is the neutral line mentioned above (generally called zero line in the factory). The neutral point is often grounded through a ground wire.
The voltage between the start and end of each phase, or the voltage between the end line and the neutral line, is called the phase voltage, which is expressed by UA, UB, UC, or generally expressed by U phase. If the voltage drop of the generator winding is omitted, the phase voltage can be regarded as equal to the potential of the phase. Generally, the phase potential is symmetrical, so the phase voltage is also symmetrical.

Because the terminal X of the first phase is not connected with the starting terminal B of the second phase, but with the terminal Y of the second phase, the instantaneous value of the line voltage between the two lines A and B is equal to the difference between the two corresponding phase voltages.
